Babystyle is also known for its famous stroller model, the Oyster. The original Oyster was released a while and since then it has gotten many updates.
Some of these updates are the Oyster 2 and Oyster 3.
The latter being one of the famous strollers and compared to many such as Uppababy, Bugaboo, etc.
In this article, I will be comparing the Babystyle Oyster 2 and Oyster 3. I will only mention the differences, so you can see which of these it’s suitable for you.
I will first do a short review on both so you can get a picture.
About the Babystyle Oyster 2.
The Oyster 2 is suitable from birth with the seat unit because it lies flat up to 15kg which is around 3 years. You can also use the carrycot and a car seat.
This makes the pram a travel system. You have a big hood that’s extendable and has a peek a boo window with a covered patch.
A reversible and reclinable seat unit with multiple positions. A 5 point harness system with chest pads. The harness is adjustable as well.
Babystyle offers an adjustable legrest and a removable leather made bumper bar. The handlebar is adjustable and also made with leather.
A narrow chassis makes it easy to push in the city. All suspension and swivel lockable wheels. A big shopping basket underneath that’s reachable as well.
It has a built-in insect net and is available in soo many colours. Oyster 2 can be folded with and without the seat unit. It weighs 6.7kg with only the chassis.
About the Babystyle Oyster 3.
Babystyle Oyster 3 is newer and more wanted because of the updated features, which we will get to later on. It’s suitable from birth up to 20kg which is around 3 and half years or up to 4 years.
It’s a travel system convertible with carrycot and car seat. You have the seat that’s reversible and reclinable with multiple positions.
A 5 point harness system with chest pads and it’s adjustable as well. A larger seat unit and an adjustable legrest and footrest.
You have a removable bar that’s made with leather and an adjustable handlebar that is also made with leather.
A big canopy that’s extended with UPF50+ sun protection, sun visor, peek a boo window and has ventilation panels.
You have big back wheels that are puncture-proof and lockable swivel front wheels to make the journey easier. Integrated with an insect net.
Folding and unfolding are easy with a lock system and the Oyster 3 only has one brake system in the centre. Its materials reflect and it’s available in many colours as well.
What’s the Difference Between the Babystyle Oyster 2 and Oyster 3?
Seat Unit and Canopy.
Oyster 3 has a seat unit dimension of L85cm and W30cm making it bigger than the Oyster 2. Hence, why it’s suitable for up to 20kg.
This update makes the Oyster 3 long-lasting and much better for bigger toddlers. The seat also has head support for babies. Both are suitable from birth, but the Oyster 3 has a better seat
When it comes to the adjustable legrest/footrest it also seems longer and more suited for toddlers. This update is good for those who have big and tall toddlers.
You also have a change on the canopy. Babystyle Oyster 3 kept the big canopy and with the extendable features and peek a boo window, but this time it added ventilation panels as well.
You also have a sun visor to keep the baby more protected.
Oyster 2 and Oyster 3 Weight and Dimensions.
The seat unit on the Oyster 2 weighs 11kg which is quite heavy and has open dimensions H:106cm W:55cm L:94cm and when folded the dimensions are H:52cm W:55cm L:70cm.
For the Oyster 3, the weight is 12kg and the open dimensions are L94 x W57 x H102 cm and the folded dimensions are L71 x W37 x H57 cm.
When looking at the length it’s the same thing when the strollers are standing. Oyster 3 has bigger Width but the height is less than the Oyster 2 stroller.
This also makes it easier for short parents to handle the former. When folded the Oyster 3 is more compact but it’s higher. It flattens more which makes it easier to store in your house and the boot.
Moving on to the weight. Both are heavy which is to be expected for most standard buggies. Oyster 2 is better in the sense that it weighs less.
They added an extra 1kg weight instead of reducing it when they updated the Oyster model. Overall, the Oyster 3 wins in this factor. (1kg might not be that much for some).
Oyster 2 and Oyster 3 Carrycot Difference.
Both carrycots are suitable from birth up to 9kg which is around 6 months. The Oyster 2 carrycot can also be used for the Oyster Max.
Oyster 3 uses its own cot and it’s bulkier than the previous models. It resembles the Egg 2 cot. The Oyster 2 cot resembles cots from Uppababy prams.
The inner dimensions of the Oyster 2 cot are 72 x 31(at centre) x 17cm. For the Oyster 3 is D76 x W42 (at centre) x H64 cm (with hood).
This version can also be folded and has a folded dimensions of D82 x W42 (at centre) x H19 cm. Both are suitable for overnight sleeping and will make your baby comfortable.
With all the added features the Oyster 3 cot weighs more around 4.3kg and the former 3.5kg. This makes the former easier to carry.
The design of the cots are also different in other ways, however, both are made with quality fabrics and materials.
Babystyle Oyster 3 has a better cot although it’s heavier.
Oyster 2 and Oyster 3 Car Seat Compatible.
Oyster 2 is compatible with these car seats; Maxi Cosi Pebble Pro, Maxi Cosi Cabriofix, Maxi Cosi City, a Britax Baby-Safe and SHR II, a Be Safe iZi Go, a Cybex Aton 2 and 3 and an Oyster own brand seat.
When it comes to the Oyster 3 is these:
- New Oyster 3 Capsule i-Size
- Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix
- Maxi-Cosi Pebble
- Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus/Pro
- Maxi-Cosi Rock
- Maxi-Cosi City
- Cybex Cloud Q
- Cybex Cloud Z
- Cybex Aton Q
- Joie I-level i-size
- Joie Gemm
- Joie i-Gemm
- BeSafe iZi Go Modular i-Size.
As you can see the Compatibility for the Oyster 3 is much more than the Oyster 2. This is a good update for parents who are interested in other car seat models.
Both of course need adapters and then you are good to go.
Babystyle Oyster 2 has a handle height of 93cm up to 106amd the other one is from 102cm up to 112cm. This makes the Oyster 2 more suitable for the average human height.
It’s also good for tall parents considering that it goes up to 106cm. The handle height for the Oyster 3 can be high for short parents, but it is still good for others.
So, it depends on your height. For very tall parents then the Oyster 3 is much suited for them. The height of the bar can make it easier to push a pram.
I will say the Oyster 2 has a much better bar. It’s perfect for the average human height, and this is for both parents. Both have the same number of adjustable positions.
Colours and Prices.
For the Babystyle Oyster 2, you can either choose a black or a chrome chassis and then you have these colours to choose from:
- Lime green.
- Rose Cold.
You also have other variants of colours of these. So the options are not that limited. With the Oyster 3, the colours differ a bit and these are:
- Dark blue.
- Dark red.
- Turquoise (dark and light).
- Yellow (mustard colour).
- Green (Two variants).
As you can see the Oyster 3 has way more colours to offer and these are available for all. It accommodates many and is excellent for the city lifestyle.
The Oyster is of course much more expensive than the former around £449.00 which is the cheapest. This is only the chassis with the seat unit.
Adding accessories can take you up to £800.00. It also depends on where you buy the stroller from. Looking at the Oyster 2 the price is £299. The price does differ a bit.
You will spend less money going for the Oyster 2 but you will also miss out on extra features.
Which One is Better?
So, other than these features above the two Babystyle prams are similar. They have the same good wheels and tyres. Both baskets are big and reachable.
Both are made of leather bars etc. Although their accessories might differ they do offer almost the same accessories.
Which one is better? Well, the Babystyle Oyster 3 is better in many ways. It does have a few cons and a downgrade from the previous model’s but overall, the update is much better.
Bigger and better seat unit, better canopy, more compact fold, better carrycot, more compatible with car seats, etc. If you look at the bigger picture it accommodates more lives.
This makes the Oyster 3 much better and therefore it wins. Oyster 2 has better weight, It’s cheaper and the handle height is the best.
So, it can still be suited for some, besides it has been compared with Uppababy Vista and Bugaboo Cameleon. The Oyster 2 is much cheaper than these two. (Making it a good choice for those who are not willing to spend that much money).
All of the lacked features on the Oyster 2 which the former offer are cons. Both are expensive compared to Maxi Cosi strollers or others.
They are heavy as well and not easy to handle. The folding mechanism takes two hands and according to a mum, it does take time before you master it.
Both are only for single babies so it’s not for twins. With a stroller board, you can use it for two children of different ages, but that’s where it ends.
The Oyster 2 is an old model and not that trendy in the market.
Quite some updates are done with the Oyster 3. More pros than cons. Both are still well searched for and liked by many British and none British families.
Oyster 3 is much popular, but both are well-liked and bought. If you decide to go with either of them rest assured that you and your family will have quality prams that will last for years.
These prams are also cheaper than many brands and at the same time, they have quality fabrics and designs.
Which of these two will it be? Let me know in the comment section.
