Uppababy has a few lightweight strollers and some of these are the Uppababy G Lite and the G Luxe. Both these G series models have come out some time ago but were updated in 2018 as well.
If you are looking for lightweight buggies to use for travelling, and when using public transportation then these are some of the options.
In this article, I will compare only the differences between them, so you know which of these is better. What makes one stand out?
I will first do a short description of these two strollers, so you somehow get a picture.
About the Uppababy G Lite.
Suitable from 6 months up to 25kg the G Lite is made for the city and travellers. With the new updated versions, it has 2 zip reclining positions on the seat.
This is only for napping time for your young toddler. The seat unit has 5 point harness with shoulder straps that are adjustable. Reclining the seat takes two hands.
G lite has so-called mesh sling seat fabrics which makes it easy for your child to breathe, and also good for airflow.
No bumper bar is added.
It has a footrest underneath the seat. A bigger canopy than the previous model with a silver sun visor. A UPF0+ canopy is made to resist water and protects from the sun and wind.
Wheels have suspension on all wheels and puncture-proof tyres with plastic tyres. Two system brake.
A basket that’s capable of carrying 4.5kg of weight. (Which is not bad for an umbrella stroller).
It’s reachable from the back and can fit in some toys and a changing bag. A light buggy around 5kg of weight. When folded it’s extremely compact.
Uppababy G Lite can be folded with two hands, and the folded mechanism is only done with hands.
It stands when folded which is good. Has the dimensions of 12.5″ L x 10.7″ W x 42″ H.
An ergonomic handle has a height of 105cm which is quite high. Two colours are available. Black and carbon and red and silver.
Carry straps are included.
Comes with a rain cover, cupholder and has a travel bag. Currently cost $179.98.
About the Uppababy G Luxe.
The Uppababy G Luxe is suitable from 3 months and up to 25 kg which is quite good and there are many lightweights that don’t offer this.
The seat unit has washable fabrics which makes it good because your baby will probably dirty the whole buggy. So no need to wipe it.
It’s also quite spacious for older and bigger toddlers as well. It has 3 reclining options and these are operated with one hand. It has an adjustable footrest to keep your toddler comfortable.
A point harness system with adjustable straps to suit your baby. It has also a silver pop-out sun visor to keep child protection from the sun’s UV.
A big UPF50+ canopy. No number is included. The seat is deeper to keep your child well seated.
A spacious basket that’s capable of carrying 4.5kg of weight and it’s also reachable from the back. The folding mechanism is triggered with just your fingers.
This is operated with one hand, so your feet are not included. It has two brakes system but you only need to use one with your foot to stop the buggy.
It has suspension on all 4 wheels and puncture-proof tyres. A height-adjustable ergonomic handlebar that has a height of 109cm.
Folded dimension of 33.02 x 30.48 x 114.3 cm. Which makes it compact to store anywhere. It also has carry straps. Weighing 9.07kg being in-between. (Still a bit light).
A cup holder is included, has a rain cover and a travel bag. Available in many colours and these are Aidan, Jordan and Jake. It cost $199.99.
The Difference Between the Uppababy G Lite and Uppababy G Luxe.
Seat Unit and Canopy/Hood.
The first noticeable difference is the seat unit. You can see the G Luxe has a deeper seat and it does have a width of 18.2 inches while the other has 18.2 inches.
It’s not that much but it’s still better and more comfortable for bigger children. The harness is padded compared to the G Lite.
Both have footrests but the G Luxe has an adjustable footrest which gives you the option to adjust in any position to make your child comfortable.
A major difference is the age suitability. G Luxe provides 3 adjustable positions which are done with one hand and this makes the seat unit suitable from 3 months instead of 6 months.
It means if you are going out for a short stroll you won’t need to take your heavy pram with you if your baby reaches 3 months. G Lite does not have removable fabrics and washable ones.
This is possible with the former so it last longer. G Luxe also has a pocket behind the seat for storage. There are no differences with the canopy features.
However, when it comes to the size then, yes. G Luxe offers a slightly bigger size.
This makes the Uppababy G Luxe better and wins here.
Weight and Dimensions.
Both have some differences in their weight. G Lite weighs 5kg which makes it one of the lightest buggies out there. As one mum stated it feels like carrying bags of potatoes.
The G Luxe however weighs 9.07kg which is still light but it’s tilting towards a standard buggy and not much easy to carry compared to the other one.
So, the Uppababy G Lite definately wins when it comes to this category. It also does when looking at the folding dimensions. It has a more compact fold than the other. (Although both are compact).
The Uppababy G Lite has more height when folded but this is not much. Just an extra 0.1 cm.
It makes the G Lite lighter to carry and easier to store if you have a tiny place. This is a big pro.
Their prices can differ depending on where you buy them online but Amazon and eBay tend to have cheaper prices. However, the G Luxe is still more expensive.
This is obvious because of the extra features it has and the better upgrade it got. Both are expensive when you compare them with other umbrella strollers, but according to mums, it’s worth it.
For those who want cheaper, the G Lite is for them, though they will miss out on other amazing features.
Both are available in the mixture of black, carbon and silver but they differ from the other colours.
G Lite has another, which is red but the G Luxe has blue and another. You have the option to choose another one with the G Luxe.
It might be no that important for you, but for some parents it is.
Handlebar and Folding Mechanism.
Both handlebars are quite tall but there’s 0.4cm indifference which is not a lot.
Both heights are good for tall parents and for the average human height, but it’s too long for shorter parents. The best suitable stroller is the G Lite for short parents.
It will be less of a problem handling the pushchair. For some really tall parents, the G Luxe is perfect.
So, the factor depends surely on your height and what you are comfortable with.
Both folding mechanisms are operated with your hands, however, with the Uppababy G Luxe you only need to use one hand and it’s your fingers.
The G Lite has two hands which makes it take more time.
Both have suspension on all wheels and puncture-proof tyres. The G Luxe has double wheels at the back but like the former, but the front wheels differ.
Now it has single wheels on both front wheels, which the Uppababy G Lite don’t have. Another major difference is that the back wheels are bigger as well.
Bigger wheels mean better manure. So, the G Luxe is less likely to get stuck and easier to push when pushing. This makes it also wins in this category.
Which One Is Better?
There’s no doubt that the Uppababy G Luxe is better in soo many ways. You can use it earlier on. Like I mentioned if you need a light buggy then are able to use it from 3 months.
The seat is also deeper which accommodate many. Bigger back wheels, canopy, more colours, and it has many features on the seat.
It weighs less and it’s more expensive but other than that it wins in every category. If you want a light buggy much more than the other features then the G Lite it’s for.
However, if you go for it you will miss out on many other things that will accommodate your lifestyle and make your baby more comfortable.
The G Luxe can actually turn into a stroller you might use every day, but with the former, it’s more complicated. Although it’s still a good lightweight buggy.
When I was researching I came across one person who stated the G Luxe is nearly perfect for an umbrella stroller. It only needs a peek a boo window.
If you look at the G Lite there are more cons.
They both of course lack many of the features that normal standard strollers have. They both lack peek a boo windows, bigger seats, a bumper bar and bigger wheels.
They are expensive for umbrella strollers and some have stated it’s not worth the prices. The G Luxe cost nearly as much as some standard stroller travel systems.
This is because the brand is well known and it does have quality fabrics and materials, but It also weighs a little bit too much for an average umbrella stroller.
If you are asking for my opinion I think the Uppababy G Luxe is much better. It’s just the price! For me personally, it’s too much for a single umbrella stroller.
Although thinking of features, it can be worth it in the long run. Whichever you choose will depend on your lifestyle as well and how often you will want to use it.
What is your opinion? Would go for the Uppababy G Lite or G Luxe?
