Are you in need of a double stroller? Whether it’s for your twins or your baby and toddler, then the Bugaboo Donkey 2 is ideal.
This Bugaboo Donkey Double stroller has won many awards and is favoured by many parents. Although there’s an upgrade which is the Donkey 3 this one has also its benefits.
This version is also an upgrade to the previous old one, so it does have features that will offer families all over the world a nice and smooth journey.
For this review, I am aiming more for those parents who have children of different ages, and not twins but you can of course view the review and also buy it through the link.
I am only linking to the mono stroller and then another carrycot. If you are expecting twins then you can buy the mono and one carrycot.
I will detail the pros and point the cons like I always do. I will also compare the stroller with the Donkey 3 which you can also buy. I did a review of it, and another pushchair from a different brand.

Bugaboo Donkey 2 Mono.
Product: Donkey 2 Mono.
Size of the Product: 87.7 x 39.7 x 62.9 cm; 13.3 Kilograms
The Place to Buy: Uberkids, Click here.
Delivery: Multiple options.
My Rating: 9.5/10.
Suitable from birth with a carrycot or a car seat up to 17kg. That’s roughly 3 years of age depending on your child. The seat is only suitable from 6 months upwards.
This means the Donkey 2 can be convertible into a Travel System, which is always the best solution. Starting with the carrycot you can reverse it forward or rear.
So, your baby also has the ability not to only view you, but the world. The carrycot comes with a soft mattress and it has a big canopy.
With sun cover and UPF50+ protection. Proving a spacious and comfortable place for your little ones. It’s a good place for twins to be in.
The fabrics are machine washable alongside the seat fabrics. Moving on to the seat. It offers reclining positions giving your baby or toddler a place to be free and play.
They can sit and sleep comfortably. The seat is also reversible which is good for toddlers. Having them facing forward can be good for their development.
The seat canopy also offers sun protection and has water-resistant fabrics. Both have nice grey melange colour with excellent fabrics.
The frame offers your baby a side basket for the single stroller. You will be needing the double stroller, this feature it’s not needed for now.
If you are buying it for children of different ages then you might need it later. The integrated side basket offers a space for you to store your goods or any other things.
You can keep it safe, near it and it has a pocket where you can keep your items. It’s nearer than a zip pocket behind the seat or underneath the stroller.
You can also increase the size of the basket with an easy pull and click system. More storage I guess, and some days you won’t need to bend.
The frame also offers a leather bumper bar that’s removable and an adjustable handlebar. This makes it easy for parents. Remove the bumper be when you are putting your baby or toddler on the stroller.
It’s more helpful when they are getting up. An adjustable handlebar is always helpful for any parent. I found it helpful with your back and hands.
Donkey 2 frame also offers easy fold and compact when folded. It stands on its own when folded. Good to use and have when using public transportation.
You can remove the wheels and the seat or seats can be on when folding. More space for your home. Extremely important for those of us who live in a tiny space.
These tyres are an upgrade to other ones. They are not air-filled instead foam-filled tyres. Which makes them more puncture-proof and smoother to ride with.
The front wheels are swivel and lockable. Lock them so that you have easier pushing through rough grounds. The swivel wheels are also good in the city.
Pushing through narrow streets. That’s why the pram is perfect for urban life. A big basket underneath with many pockets to fit your groceries or other important items.
Other accessories are a rain cover that suits both the carrycot and seat. A cover for the basket is also included to offer more protection.
The other carrycot is just like the first one, so there’s no need of detailing it. You can buy another carrycot to use for your twins alongside the other one.
Or you can also buy the cot to use with the seat if you are buying it for your baby and toddler. Later on, when your twins are bigger you won’t need to buy another seat because the carrycot is convertible so, it’s easier for parents.
View my review on other accessories you can need if you already have 2 kids and a 3rd one is coming, which can be a stroller board for the bigger toddler. View my review on the Bugaboo stroller board.
See my review on two Bugaboo changing bag to match with your Donkey 2 stroller.
- Suitable up to 17kg, which is small if you think about it. Some toddlers by the age of 4 and even 5 will still need a stroller. It means you have to buy a double lightweight stroller.
- It’s highly pricey and this is only the single. With an extra carrycot or seat, it will be expensive. You will also need a changing bag which can add to the cost. With the single, a changing bag is not needed. The side basket can be useful.
- A side by side double stroller takes up more space. It’s not that slim and can make it difficult to enter certain places.
- The carrycots are bulky and big. It’s not easy when travelling and even for the frame.
- Only one rain cover, you will need to buy another one.
- Not ideal for suburban lifestyle in my humble opinion. It’s too fancy and will get dirty quickly. It’s not simple and can be complicated, but this is my opinion.
- Matches many car seats, but not all do you need to look, before buying any.
Donkey 2 vs Other Popular Strollers.
For this comparison, I am going to compare it to strollers I have already reviewed. It’s simpler and easier. I will also be able to go more into details.
So, this comparison will only be with the Donkey 3, and not the original Bugaboo Donkey. Let’s see if the Donkey 2 holds a chance or not.
I will also compare it to another competitive double stroller. The 2020 Silver Cross Wave tandem pushchair. This one is a tandem stroller as seen above.
Bugaboo Donkey 2 vs Donkey 3.
These Bugaboo double strollers look the same in style and even size, but there is a difference. Of, course otherwise, there won’t be another new stroller.
Let’s first look at their similarities and these are:
- Both are travel system ready.
- Side by side double carrycots, seats or carrycot and seat. Car seat included with adapters.
- Other main features are included.
What makes the Donkey 3 better and upgraded? Well, it has a peek a boo panel, lighter wheels, a seat that can be used up to 22kg, and a larger weight capacity on the basket and side basket.
These are the differences from the older version. Which as you can see it’s much better. It’s lighter and at the same time gives it more space.
Both have similar prices, so there’s not much difference but the Donkey 2 will still be bought by many if it’s bought second hand. The older version tends to be cheaper.
Bugaboo Donkey 2 vs Silver Cross Wave 2020.
So, as mentioned above these two are different double strollers. One Is a side by side and the other a tandem, but they still have some similarities, and they are:
- Suitable from birth with carrycot or car seat.
- Reclining positions.
- Big canopy (Bugaboo offer bigger).
- 5 point harness system with chest pads.
- Adjustable handlebar and removable bumper bar.
- Easy fold.
- Forward and rear-facing.
- Spacious basket.
- All system wheels and quality designed fabrics and materials.
Besides these features, the Wave also offer an adjustable footrest, zip-on apron, 5 adjustable positions on the handlebar, a seat elevated system, magnesium chassis, ventilated carrycot, etc.
These are the main differences. As you can also see above the Donkey 2 provides more space and has removable wheels that do offer an even more compact fold.
The carrycot is bigger and has a bigger canopy which many parents will prefer. When comparing the quality the Silver Cross Wave is no doubt better.
It’s also cheaper, so many may choose It, but it’s debatable because many may also choose the Bugaboo Donkey 2 even though it’s an older version.
The side basket can also be something that can motivate many mothers. Grants you storage after your toddler grows out of the stroller.
The Bugaboo Donkey 2 seat can be converted into the carrycot and vice versa. Which makes it also amazing and something for many families.
A 3 Way System.
This Bugaboo Double stroller is quite good for whatever situation you are in. It can be used for single babies without feeling awkward, twins and as a duo for your baby and toddler.
Many sides by side double strollers do not offer these options. Although the Donkey 2 is an older version it still stands a chance with other popular strollers out there.
You will offer your family a nice and smooth ride for years. Bugaboo is loved by many and there’s a reason for that. My sister bought the donkey stroller and she loves it.
