Phil&Teds; has been a company known for their many children products. Their pushchairs are famous and well known in the UK.
The Phil&Teds; Smart Stroller is one of the buggies they offer that’s suitable from birth to toddlerhood. This model’s an upgraded version from an old one.
It’s not new but still searched for by parents because it’s perfect for urban lifestyle and its travel system convertible.
In this article, I will detail the pros and point out the cons. Compare it with another popular buggy and see if it still holds value in the market.

Phil&Teds; Smart Stroller Review.
Product: Smart Buggy.
Price: $139.99 – $299.00.
Size of the Product: Open dimensions: L107cm × W57cm × H88cm. Folded dimensions: L83cm × W57cm × H37cm. (Weight: 10.7kg).
Handle Height: From 99cm.
My Rating: 9/10.
This model came out in 2016 which has been a while now, but the stroller still suits today standards and lifestyles. It’s available in four colours only and these are graphite, pink, blue and red.
Suitable from birth with seat unit because it has a lie-flat option. The backrest reclines deep allowing your baby to lie flat comfortably.
It has been reported that you can use one hand to recline the seat while your baby it’s still inside. This makes it easier when you are out and carrying a lot of things.
Phil&teds; smart stroller has soft padded cushions fabrics that are made from aerocore. This gives your little one a soft environment to be in.
It also offers other reclining positions to your child comfortable, in total its 4 positions. A 5 point harness system that has a one release mechanism to open it up.
The harness can be adjusted to suit your child as they are growing up. A bumper is also included to keep your child safe and the bar can also be removed.
A one-hand release mechanism for the bar as well. One last thing the seat offers is the adjustable leg rest. Your little one will have a place to rest their legs.
The seat will take your baby up to 20kg which is around 4 years. At that age, most toddlers are done using the seat unit.
A big canopy with UPF50+ protection from the sun, rain and wind. It’s there to keep your child from getting sunburn and wet.
Phil&teds; also offers a peek a boo window with the Smart Stroller. The seat unit is only forward-facing as mentioned above this makes the window quite important.
You can use it to view your child without going upfront. Viewing your busy toddler or baby all the time will be helpful. The colour of the canopy is the same as the seat.
The canopy has a zip extension to make it larger.
An adjustable handle made with foam. This offers an easy push for many parents, especially taller ones. The foam makes the handle soft to grab.
Height is from 99cm upwards which is quite tall. You also have the narrow open seat. It’s easier to fit in any street and especially the city’s narrow streets.
The fold is operated with your feet and has been reported not be that difficult to do. Once folded it offers a compact fold and can stand on its own.
Most pushchairs have brakes that are located underneath near the wheels, but the Smart stroller has them near the seat. This makes them hand-operated and easier according to some.
Big back wheels and smaller front wheels. The rear wheels are puncture proof and air-filled to make them stand many rough terrains.
Although they are not been reported to be multi-terrain. The front wheels are swivel and lockable to give them better manoeuvrability when pushing through narrow streets.
Mostly suitable for urban lifestyle and when using public transport. After folding the Smart Buggy it’s not easy to carry with the heavyweight of 10.7kg.
Lastly, you have the underneath basket, although it does not look that big it can take up to 10kg of weight. Compatible with the high-quality Uppababy Vista V2.

Cocoon and Car Seat.
Phil&Teds; Smart stroller is compatible with both a cocoon and Car Seat making it a 2in1 and a 3in1 travel system. The cocoon can be used from birth up to 6 months.
It gives your baby the best lie-flat option and it’s highly recommended. (It’s sold separately). You will need to recline the seat unit flat and then place the cocoon rear-facing on top of the seat
It has loops to attach the cocoon to the frame.
This makes you have a clear view of your child. The cocoon also comes with a UPF50+ canopy with a soft mattress and good fabrics to keep the baby comfortable.
The Smart Buggy is also compatible with a car seat. You will need adapters to use on the seat and all of these are sold separately.
It’s compatible with Maxi Cosi Cabriofix Car Seat, Maxi Cosi Mico, Peg Perego Primo Viaggio, Phil&Teds; own Alpha car seat.
- This model is not that new in the market.
- It does not offer all-terrain wheels.
- Only offers some adjustable positions on the seat.
- The handlebar is too high for the average human height and more so for short parents.
- Only available in a few colours.
- It’s not a double stroller convertible.
- The seat unit only faces forward.
- The bars are made with foam, although soft to touch it gets easily damaged.
Phil&Teds; Smart Stroller vs Mamas and Papas Airo.
Can an old model be compared with today’s models? How about these two? Both have similar features and are not that far apart.
I decided to compare these two to see how well the Smart buggy would perform. Both are standard buggies in the market and well searched for.
Like many standard buggies they do share similarities, and these are:
- Both are travel system convertible with carrycot/cocoon and car seats.
- Suitable for up to 4 years.
- Available in few colours.
- Adjustable bars and removable bumper bars.
- 5 point harness system.
- Softly padded fabrics on the seat.
- Adjustable legrest/footrest.
- Stands when folded and offers a compact fold.
- Big UPF50+ canopy with peek a boo window.
- All suspension wheels.
- Faces only forward.
- Swivel lockable wheels.
Aside from that above the Mamas and Papas Airo, it’s much lighter than the Smart buggy at 7.6kg. It has leather made bars, auto-locks when folded and it offers a more compact fold than the Smart buggy.
It’s also made with more quality fabrics, has carry straps and has a bigger canopy. Although it’s more expensive, slimmer and longer and the seat is too open.
It’s not from birth either. The Smart stroller offers a seat unit that’s from birth with an available lie-flat option, it has a foot-operated fold some might prefer and the brakes are controlled with your hands.
Phil&Teds; handlebar is higher which makes it more suitable for taller parents, although the former is better for shorter parents and the average human height.
The basket underneath takes up to 10kg of weight which is a lot. It’s available in brighter colours which some might prefer as well.
It also offers more reclining positions on the seat.
Which one is better? It’s hard to decide, but it looks like both take the same spot. Although the Mamas and Papas Airo lightweight and quality fabrics can make many prefer it.
The Phil&Teds; Smart stroller is simple and yet it has much to offer. Although it’s not the newest stroller out there it’s still one of the best simple standard strollers out there.
If you live in an urban area and want a normal cheap biggy to use then the Smart Buggy is a good option. Although with the available accessories it gets expensive.
What are your thoughts on this buggy? Will the Phil&Teds; Smart stroller be ideal for your lifestyle?
